United Water provides water and wastewater services to 7 million people in the United States. In addition to owning and operating regulated utilities, United Water operates municipal systems through public-private partnerships and contract agreements. Four of the nation's largest water and wastewater contracts are operated by United Water.
Founded as Hackensack Water Company in 1869, United Water became the nation's second largest investor-owned water services company following a merger with GWC Corporation in 1994. At the same time, we gained a strategic alliance with Suez Lyonnaise Des Eaux which became a principal shareholder. During the next five years we worked together to pursue growth markets in North America. On July 27, 2000 United Water Resources became a wholly owned subsidiary of Suez Lyonnaise Des Eaux, an international leader in water and wastewater services. In March 2001, our parent company changed its name to Suez. United Water is a key player in the Suez enviroment division which serves 125 million people around the world.
United Water seeks to be the premier water services company in North America. "Premier" designation is never ours to claim or own. We earn it only through the eyes of our customers, our employees, our shareholders and the communities where we operate. And every day we must earn it all over again. Our corporate logo, the water star, symbolizes our mission to be premier. The individual drops represent what we strive to provide our customers--pure, clean water and stellar service. United Water's strategic plan targets growth of its core water and wastewater businesses through public-private partnerships with municipalities, strategic alliances, contract services, acquisitions, investments and expansion of its existing service territories. The company's growth plan focuses on public-private partnerships and contract services with municipalities that wish to outsource management of their water and wastewater systems.
United Water owns and operates water and wastewater utilities throughout the US. The company also operates regulated water and wastewater systems for municipal clients through a variety of public-private partnership contract structures. United Water also operates industrial systems in certain locations.
