United Water teams up with the state to offer a water education seminar for teachers Toms River, NJ, October 23, 2001 -- Imagine taking a journey as a water molecule, making water defy gravity or investing in the future with water. Each of these activities and a host of others will be achieved by Toms River teachers during a workshop that will show them how to bring water education to their classroom. United Water has teamed up with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the Wetlands Institute to offer elementary school teachers a water education seminar on Tuesday Oct. 16 and 23 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at West Dover School. Project WET, Water Education for Teachers, is a collection of innovative, water related activities for grades K-12 that are hands-on, easy to use and fun. Each teacher who attends the workshop will receive a Project WET curriculum activity guide that is correlated to the state curriculum standards. They also will receive facts, information, and materials about New Jersey’s water resources. Project Wet and the Wetlands Institute are registered professional development providers with the New Jersey Department of Education. Teachers who attend the workshop will receive five credit hours toward their state mandated professional development requirements. George Flegal, general manager said United Water continuously seeks ways to enhance watershed awareness through education and community involvement. “Our outreach and education program emphasizes developing partnerships with local schools. Hosting this program falls in line with our efforts to further educate consumers of all ages about water related issues.” Project WET is a nonprofit water education program located on the Montana State University Campus in Bozeman, Montana.
