The United Water Trail To Open In Hummelstown

HARRISBURG, PA - August 23, 2002 – United Water Pennsylvania and the Borough of Hummelstown are proud to announce the opening of a nature trail in the Borough along the Swatara Creek on Saturday, September 7, 2002. The United Water Trail, which is on lands owned by United Water Pennsylvania, is a ¾ mile wooded path that loops along the Swatara Creek. The trail will be the Boroughs most recent recreation facility for area residents who enjoy outdoor activities such as walking and hiking in a scenic setting away from the hustle and bustle. The official opening will be marked with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony beginning at 12 noon.

"The grounds along the Swatara Creek in Hummelstown are beautiful, especially in the Fall," says John Hollenbach, General Manager and Vice President of United Water Pennsylvania. "The United Water Trail will ensure that the natural surroundings along the Swatara Creek are preserved for people who live and work in the Borough."

The United Water Trail is only the first phase of a two-phase project. Another section of trail will be developed downstream and upon completion of phase-two, the trail will be a 2-mile path bordering the creek.

The trail project is a result of a Public/Private Partnership between the Borough of Hummelstown, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United Water Pennsylvania and Pennsy Supply, Inc. The trail was constructed by the Hummelstown Public Works Department, with financial assistance from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, and donated materials from Pennsy Supply, Inc. United Water Pennsylvania donated the land.

"We are proud to be a partner in this effort that will protect and preserve our environment for generations to come," said Hollenbach.
