The rating comes as a result of the DEP’s annual compliance evaluation and assistance inspection. The DEP report commended United Water for its, “continued cooperation in operating [the] facility in a responsible and efficient manner.” The annual inspection is administered to ensure that the utility is in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. “Our employees are very proud of our track record,” said Joseph Macula, general manager, United Water Jersey City. “The residents of Jersey City and the people who depend upon our water supply can rest assured that we are providing water of excellent quality and managing the facilities in top notch fashion.” In total, the nine-page report detailed over 70 inspection parameters where the company achieved the DEP’s Bureau of Water Compliance and Enforcement standards. United Water’s compliance included meeting water quality standards for copper and lead, acceptable unaccounted for water performance and compliant emergency interconnections with four regional water suppliers. The Jersey City system consists of the Boonton and Split Rock Reservoirs which have a total capacity of 11.3 billion gallons. United Water Jersey City provides an average of 50 million gallons of water a day to nearly 250,000 residents in Jersey City.
