United Water Urges Customers To Check Identification Of Water Company Personnel Men posing as utility workers cause call for caution WILMINGTON, DE November 13, 2003--United Water officials are urging customers to take extra precaution in protecting themselves and their property by closely examining the identification of any person claiming to be from the water company seeking access to their home. Several men posing as water utility employees recently attempted to and gained access to a customer's residence in the Bear, Delaware area. According to Joanne Rufft, Customer Service and Communications manager of United Water Delaware, "Customers should not hesitate to call us if they have even the slightest doubt regarding the identity of the person at the door. We'll be happy to let them know if that person is indeed our representative. Our phone number is (302) 633-5900." All United Water employees wear company identification cards. These cards include the company logo, a blue star formed by drops of water, and the company name written in black, as well as the employee's name, title, and issue date. A color photo of the employee is prominently displayed on the card, so customers can easily see if the person on their doorstep matches the photo. The person's vehicle is also a way of identifying their authenticity. All United Water vehicles have a white body with the company name and logo displayed on both sides. Public Safety officials advise residents to look closely at the identification card, and to make sure the person at their door is the same one whose picture is on the card. They also advise residents not to open their door unless they are certain of the person's identity, and to call United Water at 302 633 5900, or their local police department, if they have any doubts that the person at their door is an employee. United Water provides water service to more than one hundred thousand people in New Castle county, Delaware and over five thousand in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
