    UNITED WATER AND PONTIAC, MI SIGN PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR MANAGEMENT OF WATER AND WASTEWATER SYSTEMS

    United Water announced that the company has signed a five-year contract for professional operations, maintenance and management of the water and wastewater systems with the city of Pontiac, MI, located 30 miles northwest of Detroit. The agreement calls for United Water to manage the city’s water and sewer utilities division, which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system, two wastewater treatment plants and storm and sanitary sewer systems.

    United Water Toms River Granted Increase In Water Rates

    The New Jersey State Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has approved an increase in water rates for residential and commercial customers of United Water Toms River, which serves approximately 120,000 residents in Toms River, South Toms River and Berkeley. The typical residential customer, using an average of 5,300 gallons of water per month, will see an average bill increase of $6.75 a month or approximately 22 cents per day. The increase was primarily related to water system improvements and inflationary impacts on overall operating expenses, and will provide the company with an additional $4.9 million in annual revenue.

    United Water Supports Senate Action On Sustainable Water Infrastructure Investment Act of 2010

    United Water today offered its support for the bipartisan Sustainable Water Infrastructure Investment Act of 2010 introduced earlier this week by Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and cosponsors Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID), Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) and Senator John Kerry (D-MA). The bill will remove state volume caps on private activity bonds (PABs) for water and wastewater projects, freeing up billions of private capital dollars for investment in the nation’s water infrastructure. A similar bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last year by Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) was passed by the House as part of the Small Business and Infrastructure Tax Act last month.

    United Water New Jersey, Bergen Save the Watershed Action Network (SWAN), and Hackensack Riverkeeper have agreed to amicably resolve issues related to a comprehensive review of all company property since the enactment of the Watershed Protection and Moratorium Act, passed by the New Jersey Legislature in 1988.     United Water announced today that the company has been awarded a new contract to operate the City of Jersey City, New Jersey’s water system for the next 10 years. Under the terms of the agreement, United Water will manage the treatment plant, watershed, aqueduct, and distribution system and provide customer service, meter reading and billing services. The final contract terms have been submitted to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Local Finance Board for review and approval.
