    NEW JERSEY BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES GRANTS RATE RELIEF TO UNITED WATER NEW JERSEY

    The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has approved a settlement agreement between the NJBPU staff, the Ratepayer Advocate and United Water New Jersey that will increase water rates for the typical residential customer of about 16 cents a day or about $4.67 a month - making the cost per gallon delivered to customer taps on a 24-hour, seven days a week basis still less than a penny. The Board also increased rates for public fire protection by 2%. The changes in rates, effective December 19th, will provide United Water New Jersey with an additional $19 million in annual revenues.

    UNITED WATER NEW JERSEY FILES RATE REQUEST WITH NJBPU

    United Water New Jersey today filed for rate relief with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to recover its investment of over $67 million in new water system improvements and increased operating expenses for the period between August 1, 2010 and April 30, 2012. The company’s rate filing of approximately $38.7 million, if approved by the BPU, would increase the typical residential customer’s bill by approximately 33 cents per day or $9.98 per month – making the cost per gallon delivered to customer taps on a 24-hour, seven days a week basis still less than a penny.

Crews are in the process of filling and pressurizing the transmission main. Company officials expect that the main will be fully pressurized this afternoon.

    BOIL WATER ADVISORY ISSUED FOR CUSTOMERS IN ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, PARTS OF ENGLEWOOD & TENAFLY

    Customers in the affected towns will have to boil their water for one minute for the following: drinking, cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets and all other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities: showering, washing dishes or clothes.

    Water levels in the reservoirs must be maintained properly to avoid damage to the dams.  We operate our dams according to an operations and maintenance procedures approved by the NJDEP Dam Safety Section.  These operating decisions are based on reservoir levels, positions of the gates and storm predictions.  Our dams are regularly inspected by the NJDEP Dam Safety Section.

    United Water Modifies Conservation Request Following Significant Rainfall

    United Water New Jersey officials said that this week’s storms delivered three inches of rain and provided substantial relief to the parched area. As a result, the company is modifying its conservation request and asking customers to follow a scientific approach to watering their lawns. The company’s ET program, short for EvapoTranspiration, calculates the optimal amount of water the average lawn needs based on the day’s weather conditions.
