United Water held a ribbon cutting ceremony today to mark the opening of the company’s new Sussex Hills Treatment Plant located in Vernon, NJ. The treatment plant, which took three and a half years to construct, was built to help the company meet the stricter requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. The new treatment process now includes uranium removal, pre-chlorination, and post-chlorination.
“This treatment plant will ensure that we provide clean, safe drinking water to our customers in Vernon, New Jersey,” said Dennis Ciemniecki, President, Regulated Segment. “Our investment in this plant recognizes that substantial improvements were necessary to ensure the health and well being of our customers in Vernon.”
The key aspects of the project included temporary installation of a Water Remediation Technology Uranium Removal Unit, interconnection of two water systems, property investigations, environmental and engineering evaluations and construction of the permanent treatment facility.
“We are very proud of our team that worked very hard and showed quite a bit of determination to make this happen,” Ciemniecki said. “The result of their labor commitment is this new facility we call the Sussex Hills Treatment Plant, which will now be an important part of the community’s future. And to us, the future is crystal clear.”
