    UNITED WATER & CAL RIPKEN, SR. FOUNDATION HOST END-OF-YEAR CELEBRATION FOR THE JERSEY CITY BADGES FOR BASEBALL PROGRAM

    The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF) and United Water hosted an end-of-year celebration for the Badges for Baseball Program in Jersey City, NJ. Two baseball teams from the Jersey City Reviving Baseball in the Inner City Program (RBI) played a friendly game at Jersey City Fields. The players received support and instruction from guest managers, including former Major League ball players Bob Tufts, Glenn Borgmann, Jack Cullen, John Doherty and Oreste Marrero. The night kicked off with Ryan Struthers, director of recreation, Jersey City and Rolando Lavarro, Jr., council president, Jersey City’s City Council throwing out the inaugural first pitch and included a barbeque with food donated by United Water.

    UNITED WATER PARTNERS WITH THE CAL RIPKEN, SR. FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH OF HAMPDEN COUNTY, MA
    United Water has partnered with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to continue the Badges for Baseball program in Hampden County, which includes Springfield and Holyoke, Mass., for the sixth year. On Thursday, August 1, approximately 100 youth from the Springfield and Holyoke Boys & Girls Clubs attended the Holyoke Blue Sox game, in celebration of the Badges for Baseball program. Badges for Baseball uses baseball and softball to train law enforcement as coaches and mentors to improve relationships between at-risk youth and law enforcement.     UNITED WATER TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY THROUGH ANNUAL FLUSHING PROGRAM

    United Water will begin to flush hydrants throughout Jersey City beginning approximately April 15. The flushing program is expected to last through August.  Flushing removes harmless minerals that collect in the water mains.  The project is part of the company’s routine maintenance program to assure high water quality.  Flushing hydrants helps to maintain the integrity of the distribution system by keeping the water lines clean. It is also necessary for fire protection because flushing ensures that the hydrants are working properly.

    United Water and the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) announced that a 30-inch water main on 18th Street in Jersey City will be shut down from 7 p.m. on Monday, April 25 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26. During that time, customers in the Newport area may have no water, low water pressure or discolored water.

    On Tuesday, May 11, United Water will temporarily shut down a transmission main which serves all parts of downtown Jersey City except the Newport area. During that time crews will replace a broken valve in the vicinity of Christ Hospital. The repairs, which will begin at about 9 a.m., should be completed by the evening.

    United Water emergency crews are working to repair six small main breaks which occurred in the Heights section of Jersey City earlier today. Company officials advise that most customers have water and there is sufficient water for fire fighting and other uses. However, residents on upper levels of high rise buildings may have low water pressure or no water.

    United Water And Jersey City Agree To 10-Year Water Contract

    United Water announced today that the company has been awarded a new contract to operate the City of Jersey City, New Jersey’s water system for the next 10 years. Under the terms of the agreement, United Water will manage the treatment plant, watershed, aqueduct, and distribution system and provide customer service, meter reading and billing services. The final contract terms have been submitted to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Local Finance Board for review and approval.
