Shaping the Future
“What’s gratifying is to see the kids participate and really get into the program. We’re teaching them how to be stewards of the environment.”
—Joe Superneau, Executive Director, Springfield Water & Sewer Commission, Springfield, MA.
United Water sponsors educational programs that further environmental goals and help young people shape their futures.
The best way to protect our water resources for future generations is to work with teachers and students in the schools.
For example, in Springfield, MA, every fifth-grade student and teacher participates in the award-winning “World Is Our Classroom” program. This program uses the wastewater treatment plant to provide students with hands-on, real world science lessons that are directly linked to their school’s curriculum.
In addition, United Water’s ”Adopt-A-School” initiatives help high school students enhance their academic skills and foster interest in environmental careers. Our internship programs offer young adults the experience to be successful in the workplace.
“United Water is known at Arlington [High School] as family. Their positive influence has led others to become actively involved in our school.”
—Dr. Jacqueline Greenwood, Former Principal, Arlington High School, Indianapolis, IN
