IndyParks Educational Mobile Unit
United Water has provided $500,000 to the Indy Parks Environmental Education Outreach Program for two mobile centers. Both the nature and water trailer bring formal classroom-type programs to schools, youth facilities and public events of Greater Indianapolis. In these trailers, over 120 animals, plants, and species native to Indiana are displayed. Indy Parks Naturalists share various programs and interactive displays for children, offering a unique way to learn about Indiana history, geology, and environmental science.
Spray Grounds
United Water has partnered with Indy Parks to build five spray grounds over five years totaling $875,000. Contributions of $175,000 for design and installation have been allocated to each location. Because there is no standing water on the deck of the spray ground, there is no need for lifeguards. The water jets use public drinking water and drain directly to a storm drain. These water playgrounds are open during park hours from dawn to dusk, providing a low cost, low maintenance form of entertainment via public drinking water jets during the summer months.
Adopt-A-School
Since 1994, United Water has provided summer internships to students of Arlington Community High School. Over 350 students have participated in the program since its inception. Students receive one-on-one mentoring with the staff as well as learn about personal finance, etiquette and raft down the White River to learn about environmental issues.
